Our last village for this PICC session was Ambanizana, about an hour north of Ambodiforaha by boat. Gorgeous forested mountains rise right from the ocean beaches of the village as far as one can see.
Over 60 children took part in a day of sketching and conservation discussions. Each child received a sketching notebook and PICC Conservation coloring book. The teachers were provided with field guides, animal identification books, sets of colored pencils, and other learning resources so that they could continue teaching all of the schools’ children about lemurs and conservation concepts.
We are so excited to grow our partnership with this village through our support of Teach for Madagascar (TFM) 2026-2027 TALY Corp Program!
Teach For Madagascar (TFM) is a Malagasy organization dedicated to expanding access to quality education in underserved communities across Madagascar. Through locally-led initiatives, TFM strengthens education systems by supporting teachers, empowering students, and promoting literacy, environmental awareness, and youth leadership.
TFM’s TALY Corps program provides both onsite and remote support to teachers and students by placing Malagasy college graduates in village schools. Selected through a highly competitive process, these interns
work alongside local educators to strengthen teaching capacity, improve student learning, and create lasting educational impact within the community.
By supporting this year’s TALY cohort in the village of Ambanizana, starting September 2026, PICC will enable two interns to serve on-site full-time for six months, working with local educators and students. Our funding also provides educational resources, literacy and numeracy materials, a mini-library, field housing, food, training, and transportation to these remote villages.

We would like to express our special appreciation for Malagasy teacher Felistin JAEN for his outstanding help with the classes at Ambanizana and also Marofototora. He is a talented teacher and we are pleased he will be teaching this coming year at the primary school in Ambodiforaha where he will be able to share his new knowledge of lemurs and conservation with the students, the teachers and the community.
